On Catholic bishops as teachers of morality.

As the Catholic bishops strive to maintain their position as the world’s foremost advocates of ignorance, bigotry, superstition, and religious authoritarianism, this comment — posted to the Spectator website — sums up the situation pretty well:

It does seem, as ever, preposterous that an organization of befrocked male virgins with, paradoxically, a penchant for child rape, torture and cover-up on a global scale, should have the gall to adopt any moral position on any subject whatsoever, particularly sexuality.

  1. Amen. And let’s not forget the fact that this organization that believes it has the right to weigh in on matters of public policy and government is TAX EXEMPT. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

    • The DV8 says:

I think all churches and religious organizations ought to be taxed. They’re up to their eyeballs in politics, and only in the rarest cases do they contribute anything significant to the public good. I doubt that even the best of them do enough good to offset the huge subsidy they get from all of us in the form of tax exemptions.
