Atlasphere: Oh my fucking god.

Atlasphere

Because I read cracked.com every day, I’ve learned of a thing called the Atlasphere. It’s a dating site for Ayn Rand fans, if you can imagine that.

There are very nearly 15,000 dating profiles at Atlasphere, so if you want to find romance with the most unpleasant person you can possibly find, your prospects may be even better at the Atlasphere than at Stormfront.org. Stormfront just doesn’t get that kind of traffic.

The thing is, I can see why the racist douchebags at Stormfront want to date other racist douchebags, but I can’t imagine anybody, even another Ayn Rand fan, wanting to touch an Ayn Rand fan. Brrrr!

To find the objectivist of your nightmares, go here: Atlasphere.

  1. Ayn Rand had such poor personal hygiene that her lover, Nathaniel Branden, reported he eventually could not get an erection in her presence. One can only imagine how today’s Randians have improved upon her bold example.

    • Ahab says:

Was it her hygiene, or her abrasive, domineering personality that took a tool on his golf swing?

Considering how romantic relationships and sex are depicted in her novels, I can’t imagine her devotees’ relationships being very healthy.

  2. Re. Paul’s comment: Ew!

I have to admit (in the interest of full disclosure), I read Atlas Shrugged when I was free-falling after leaving Mormonism. Along with other books (like Payne’s Age of Reason) it did give me an alternative view of the universe, something to hang onto when I desperately needed help redefining both my reality and my identity. I thought she was brilliant at the time … but keep in mind I’d just left a lifetime of believing The Book of Mormon was “the most correct book on the Earth.” Ahem. Suffice it to say I had very low standards.

So, in a way, Rand’s book (along with others) helped pull me out of a depression when my own family would not speak to me. I was able to step back and look critically at lots of beliefs and philosophies — including Mormonism — and ultimately, reject Rand’s objectivism. In a weird way, reading her book helped me to think critically about it so I could ultimately reject it.

Now you know why I got a great laugh from reading your post. “… so if you want to find romance with the most unpleasant person you can possibly find …” Classic, and laugh out loud funny.

Appears that DV8 is the only one herein lacking in hygiene. Ayn Rand was imperfect but her rejection of socialism alone was enough to make her a person to be admired.
