I’m loving me some Psychodrew.

I don’t ordinarily read Daily Kos, because I get pissed off at the Obamabots and the straight folks who feel perfectly qualified to tell me what level of inequality I should be thrilled with. However, there is one blogger over there whom I follow. Today he wrote on comments by some unidentified Obamabot who said:

At the risk of sounding pissy, which I’m not trying to be, has the Gay rights community here that was at times really kind of nasty, anti-Obama come around yet, issued any half-hearted apologies for some of the inflated rhetoric. …

Can some of us stalwart defenders of the President, maybe, possibly, if it is okay with other posters, take just the tiniest bow at having some of our faith justified .. maybe, pretty please …

The blog post, which is well worth reading, is here: It’s Hard to Say “I’m Sorry”

However, I really enjoyed the comments by a guy who calls himself psychodrew, and who said:

I’m not fucking apologizing for expecting my president to live up to his promises. And I’m not fucking apologizing for being angry that this president told me to wait for equality. Fuck that. No apologies. If you don’t like it, you can kiss my big gay ass.

Another person responded:

You need to practice Yoga dear heart…

Anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

to which psychodrew replied:

I am training as a cardiovascular social psychophysiologist. I’ve done research on cardiovascular and cortisol reactivity to stress. I will ignore your ignorant and unsolicited advice accordingly.

I needed that. Now following pyschodrew on Twitter.

  1. I’m pretty close to the opinion that, for a variety of reasons — including for his failures to push for gay rights — Obama ought to be tried and convicted of treason. I certainly do not believe anyone owes him thanks for barely — almost grudgingly — doing something half right for once. So, I applaud psychodrew’s refusal to apologize. A refusal that is actually kind of inspiring.

At the same time, I think psychodrew might be bullshitting about his medical background. I have never before heard anyone who has a degree in the psychological sciences or relevant medicine play down the negative consequences of nursing anger, unless they were a fundamentalist like James Dobson. But maybe psychodrew is just more up to date than I am. That’s always quite possible.

  2. I am so tired of people condescendingly claiming that anger only hurts the angry. I agree with Paul that nursing anger is not productive. That being said, anger is often appropriate, necessary, and has some value. Psychodrew’s response to that comment was perfect.

    • The DV8 says:

You’ve got to have some balance. You can’t let anger consume you; you can’t let it be what motivates you. But I think there’s plenty room for anger in the human psyche. Anger doesn’t destroy you any more than a sense of humor destroys you. It’s good to have both. In fact, I think you need both.
